Asia finally gets the cheese bug...with added chocolate

Taiwan, traditionally a nation that shuns cheese, has gone mad for Chesdale chocolate cheese slices. In the 6 months since release the chocolate cheese slices have captured 10% of the cheese market.

Currently the New Zealand made dairy product is only available in Taiwan, but there are plans to consider releasing it to Indonesia, Malaysia, Phillipines and Singapore. Fonterra, the manufacturers, are also reassessing the product for release in New Zealand.

Roger Boyd, Fonterra Brands Taiwan managing director said the cheese had "a mild chocolate flavour, matched to a light Cadbury flavour - we backed off a little from Nutella".

Fonterra have plans to add other flavours to cheese but have yet to disclose what they are.

With Chesdale chocolate cheese slices having delivered $NZ1 million in revenue it's looking like chocolate cheese could be the next big thing in the dairy section.
