South Africa's Olympic chocolate chomping
In 2005 South Africa chomped its way through enough chocolate to fill 22 Olympic size swimming pools.
That equates to 44,200 tons of chocolate, an increase of 11% over 2004's recorded figures.
Evidently the most popular chocolate treat with the greatest growth, 30%, were chocolate slabs. A trend that also appears to be global, not just confined to South Africa.
With dedication like that perhaps chocolate consumption should be considered as a new event for the next Olympics.
