1 million chocolate bars to be buried
Approximately 1 million Mars and Snickers bars are to be buried at a secure landfill site in Sydney after their recall due to an extortion bid. The bars, which a letter claimed 7 had been poisoned, have been recalled since last Friday in New South Wales.
Tests have confirmed that a Snickers bar sent to manufacturer MasterFoods last month was contaminated with a pesticide like substance that could be harmful to children.
Regional president Andy Weston-Webb said "We have a (destruction) plan with the food authorities ... It will be done in a safe and supervised way," to ensure there is absolutely no risk of contamination.
Mars and Snickers bars will not be returning to shops in NSW until MasterFoods are completely sure that it is safe to do so, however stores are still being reported as continuing to sell bars that are part of the recall.
MasterFoods have also confirmed that there is no link between the products and the illnesses reported by people who ate them.
1,000,000 bars of chocolate being buried, chocolate lovers will be in tears.
