Chocolate preferred as lovelorn comfort food

A recent survey has found that 33% of young people said that they comfort eat when they have an unhappy love life. With over 60% in the 15-24 age range turning to chocolate.

The Priory Group, which treats people with eating disorders carried out the survey, questioning 1,000 people, and found that 52% of adults admit to gorging themselves on chocolate when they feel down.

Obviously there are related problems with overindulging in chocolate when you are feeling low, for example obesity, dentistry issues, cost, but evidently there is nothing quite like a virtual chocolate hug when you are feeling low.

Specialists do warn that using food, especially chocolate, as a prop for depression, insecurity, loneliness or love life problems is not a recommended long term strategy. However sometimes when you need a little bit of a comforting lift a small nibble of chocolate can evidently be just the answer you're looking for.
